I think if its retirement in SG, also not bad...if the house is fully paid for. And dun buy car...just use public transport...should be easy to get by with S$500 ~ S$600 pm. If sold the house and downgrade to a 2 or 3 rms, will roughly have enough money to retire...

By then the price will be higher and could be even more expensive. Singaporeans living in JB work in Singapore. We don't find work in JB. We follow the ways of the Malaysian workers working in Singapore but live in JB. Many Singaporean taxi drivers, bus drivers, hawkers, office workers, etcs are doing that now. Even the expatriates working in Singapore are doing that....you will be surprised. I know a foreign banker working in Singapore but live in JB. Its all about dollars and cents at the end of the day. You can actually start saving your retirement money from your income monthly.
I don't have that $ yet....your JB property have shopping areas or coffeeshops at all ? I mean some JB properties are very far from amenities right?

Yes, it is about choices here for Singaporeans. Most Europeans, Australians and Americans themselves do not actually want to retire in their own countries basically because they can't afford it or they want to stretch their retirement fund. Usually south east asian countries like Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Malaysia will be their choice of countries for them to retire. You see...none of them choose Singapore as their retirement country.
Haha! SG is still expensive if you fall ill the medical fees are exceptionally high...if you drive and buy a car, you'll not have $ to retire also...for people that are modest and take public transport and eat moderately, SG can be feasible....to retire.

Yes and I like to take a walk. Nearby my place there is a provision shop whereby if you don't have enough money to buy your groceries...they will have the 555 book for you...just like old kampong days in Singapore in the past...lols. My water bill is only RM5 the most is RM7. Electricity bill is RM30+ to RM40 if I don't use aircon so much. My monthly food groceries is around RM200+.
Wow that's cheap! Sounds good! Definitely will be researching more about this!

Yes, its cheap...that is the reason I chose to live in JB and retire in JB. By the way, with aircon is only about RM70+ and besides that I can still watch Singapore TV channels and also listens to Singapore radio channel. Its still like living in Singapore and the different is we are much more happier and contented here. You will know what I mean when you stay here. Good luck to you and your research, Mr Bane.
Yeah! Thks so much ! I didn't know until you mentioned it...I was thinking about Australia mostly...now I have more choices...

Hope you see more about your life rather than about wealth, Mr Bane. Glad that my information here helps you to see clearly.
I was planning my retirement (in a few years time) and in anyway, no matter which country I choose, will still have to sell my house in SG first...of coz its still too early to decide which country...some people love the countryside while others prefer city areas (for the amenities)...for me, my options are still open....
I'm aiming for a better quality of life...enjoy outings with my family and watching the sunset, go fishing, travel the world etc. Too often, we worked so hard and have forgotten to appreciate the simple things in life...we have to be happy.
In our modern world, happiness is not easy to find...to decide to retire in other countries need lots of guts, research, money. Will we be happier in another country? Guess we will never know until we are there...

True. Whatever our decision is, it will be an act of faith...like PM LHL said in his NDP rally speech.
I like SG because its safe and people dun carry guns...virtually no gang problems...and cheap food....(if you cook, its even cheaper). The main issues are housing and cars and medical expenditures...rocket high prices! These reasons made retiring in SG not possible unless you have lots of cash.

I understand. But surprisingly, many Singaporeans are leaving Singapore and looking for a new life in a new country where there are violence etc.. U.S. , Australia etc. Don't you find it an irony. This is also an act of faith and they made it...without regret as time goes by.
You are quite right, its such irony....anyway I got a few years to consider.
Thks for your help !
