SINGAPORE : Former
MP for Radin Mas, Mr MKA Jabbar, has died on Saturday morning.
The
77-year-old suffered a stroke after being ill for a few years.
He
leaves behind his wife and three children.
Prayers for Mr Jabbar
were held on Saturday.
Mr Jabbar became an MP when he won the
Radin Mas seat in the 1980 General Election.
He was an MP from
1981 to 1984.
He was also the president of the Union of Keppel
Shipyard Employees.
In 1984, Mr Jabbar stepped down as MP, saying
he wanted to make way for new candidates.
He was President of
United Indian Muslim Association from 1990 to 2003, after which he
continued to serve as the association's senior advisor.
Mr
Jabbar's body left his home for final prayers at An-Nur Mosque at
Woodlands and then for Choa Chu Kang cemetery.
Those who knew him
say he was selfless.
"He's not a selfish person. He brought in
the youth leaders into the community. In 2003 he handed over the baton
to the youth leaders like me to continue to serve the community," said
Farihullah, president of the United Indian Muslim Association.
"He's
a very humble person, approachable anytime, and he is passionate about
volunteerism. Anytime you can knock on his door, he will be willing to
help us, and help the community as well," he added.
