85 arrested in nationwide raid

THE Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Singapore Police Force arrested 85 people after a multi-agency operation across Singapore that ended Friday morning.
The multi-agency effort saw officers from the Singapore Police Force, the Central Narcotics Bureau, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority and the Singapore Customs, raiding various locations in Geylang and Marine Parade, including entertainment outlets, back lanes, lodging houses and roads.
The 85 were arrested for a host of criminal offences. This includes illegal gambling activities, gang-related activities, vice-related activities, peddling contraband cigarettes, as well as immigration and gaming offences.
The operation also uncovered people working without valid work permits.
Mr Ng Boon Gay, Director of CID and Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police, said: 'We will continue to work together with the relevant enforcement agencies to ensure that criminal activities are kept at bay.'
Investigations against those arrested are ongoing.
