A 33-YEAR-OLD man who was involved in a hit-and-run traffic accident was arrested by the police on Monday with the help of the public.
The driver had fled the accident after colliding into a stationary car.
The accident occurred at the car park of Block 276 Tampines street 22 and eyewitnesses saw the suspect alight from his car to remove his car's registration number plates after colliding into the stationary car.
Though several members of the public tried to prevent him from leaving, the suspect still drove off. But his car registration number was taken down by eyewitnesses and given to the police.
Commander of Traffic Police, Assistant Commissioner of Police Cheang Keng Keong thanked the members of public for their public-spiritedness which led to the swift arrest.
The suspect faces a fine of up to $3,000 or jail of up to one year.

The guy shall threaten the public who try to stop him from fleeing ma... Tell them he will bash them up if they report him to police..
Then he will be charged one more serious offence
Hit and run is a very serious offend.
Luckily no one died.
just curious, I tot, hit and run involves hitting a person and then running.. it also involves hitting a car?
what he should do is to put a note under the wiper of the car he hits, giving his contact and then drive off?
Unless, those chasing him is the owner of the stationary car, else, why the big ruckus?
seems I am not getting the full picture.
You are right, just leave yr number or whatever before you leave.
But he just drove off.
That is a bad driver.
He's very busy with something else?

I guess it also involves public properties and other ppl assets...

Public spiritness I guess... Doesn't help when the driver tried to remove his own license plate after hitting the vehicle...
If I see a driver hitting something like cars etc...damageing the properties, I will also write down the car number and call the police.
Better still, have a group of pple and chase him/her down.

If you hit another car, that already counts as an accident.
And the rules are clear: in an accident with another vehicle, you must stop and exchange details with the other owner. At the very least, like you said, he should have written a note and left it on the car he hit.
The big ruckus is due to the fact that the fella who hit the car did not bother to do that, and tried to escape responsibility by removing his licence plate numbers.
Bottom line: if you get into an accident of any kind, and you don't bother to do anything responsible about it, that counts as a hit-and-run.
just curious, it really takes a lot to remove the car plate, cause most of them are fasten with screws. unless due to accident, they were loose..
in this modern age, i am appalled that people think they can escape when the camera phones are rampant and stomp is so over-subscribed.
yep, thanks for sharing on the "hitNrun" bit.

Very selfish driver indeed.
Jail and fine him.
And ban him for 10 yrs of driving.
Luckily I am not a judge...so make him suffer in the jail.
