Study Mass Comms, Journalism, Film-making, Arts..sorry, you will be replaced by your Indonesian, Pinoy, Malaysian friends, who can speak more regional languages than you, and they are cheaper. PRC girls who are prettier (look at our channel 8/U news broadcasters!) Pinoy guys more handsome and Ang Mohs, speak better English than you!
I lol-ed.
Seriously, Pinoys don't speak better English than we do...
Generally, I think their accent is irritating...

I agree to the first, although the second is subjective.

From what I observe, I think it is probable that some men might feel that the Pinays are better at service becoz their females usually have that kinda intimate accent when speaking or promoting stuff.
Maybe its just me...

Funny, I agree with you, but I always thought that's just the trend for all foreign workers or foreign talents.
I mean, they HAVE to/should be more polite and demure and whatnot in almost everything they do since this isn't their home country, right?

True...
I do notice it even amongst their tourists too though...

some wrong sentence structure hence the edition
I hate to give you the wet blanket, but local docs are being replaced by Indian docs.
Scientist? Can you fight with the Ang mohs? Did you look up A*Star recruitment where they advertise for positions that demand expertise which S'poreans do not possess?
Lawyers, yes, that could be one......hopefully, they don't bring in the Pakistanis, studied law in Britain, come to Singapore to look for jobs....

They do speak better english in terms of diction and pronounciation, which Singaporeans cannot match. Proof in the real world? Two of the most used personnels in call centres, Pinoys and Indians. Period.
Soon, we will have them teaching our children Taglish.

Will YOU, yes, YOU, do that? As a Singaporean, I hope you say the above in jest.

I need to reiterate, Pinoys have penetrated into our education system through our tuition and childcare centres, just like the PRCs mothers who came with their kids earlier.
Most of the time I get a call from call center, it is either pinoys or indians or prc. But sometimes got local malays....but locals will be replaced very soon. Sad and worry.

True...most foreign Indians still have their thick accent.
I've had foreign Indian teachers like that. Some students find it hard to keep up with what the teachers were trying to say.

Yes, I prefer speak to a local.
But before speaking to a human, we have to entertain a robot voice machine for at least 5 min.

Oh I am at ground-zero of this "penetration into our education system", and I am telling you, where I come from, Pinoys do NOT match up to our standard of English, be it oral or written.

We have top talent running the country who knows what is good for us.
Really.
Data from UN on our population, over 40% are of foreign origin.
http://data.un.org/CountryProfile.aspx?crName=SINGAPORE
So our population is being replaced at an alarming rate.
You may ask, so what?
It's simple. Whatever you study, trained for, will be fruitless, because Singaporeans will be replaced by cheaper foreigners, despite their "skill-sets".
When will you be replaced, Singaporeans?

From the way I see it, most of the foreigners in Singapore are either in the service line or construction.
I wouldn't be too worried about that...for now...
The beauty of a raging fire seen from a distance.
