ONE person suggested that Singapore should appoint 'littering vigilantes' who can 'card' those caught littering.
Another asked how Singaporeans can be encouraged to give up their seats on public transport for those who need them more.
And another mused about the need for new citizens to stop 'congregating' together and to mix with other Singaporeans.
These thoughts surfaced at a dialogue yesterday on how the Singapore Spirit can be developed.
It was a subject dwelt on by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in his National Day Rally address last month, when he said that shared values and memories bind Singaporeans together.
Retired sales manager Loo Chew Chong, 55, for one, believes that this shared sense of ownership can be cultivated when citizens speak out against those who litter.
Before we express the 'Spore Spirit', we need to have a stead job at hand, affordable cost of living, affordable bills, and keep the cost low.
Only then, we can sit down and talk about 'Spore Spirit', why? Pple are only interested in giving 3 meals to their family. Work and work and earn wages to support family.
what is Spore spirit if there are so many foreign spirits?

spirit should be about 7th lunar month.
hahahaha....ok ok, Spore Spirits officially starts at 7th Lunar Month.
I have stayed overseas in many parts of the world and lived and worked.
This is what i observed.
When Singaporean travelled overseas we are not afraid to adventure out on our own.
Singaporean in general are being welcome overseas. We don't click as a group when we are overseas.
Singaporean overseas are always Solo in most time. We don't called ourselves Chinese, but "Singaporean" which is hard for Chinese to understand the definition only when we come to work side by side they would agreed that we are not chinese.
I think Singaporean given the limitation in Singapore whenever we go out we do what we enjoyed. be it shopping or food or other interest.
I think the one thing that is commonly drawback and strenght is the constant critical. I just think that Singaporean at times are too critical a bad habit from the homeland.
So to conclude the Singapore Spirit - We are a independent minded group of people not tie down by traddition but are critical at most things in life.
When I was waiting for my turn to stamp my passport at foreign international airport custom clearance, I feel proud being holding a spore passport. Really proud.

Yeah, the kampong spirit is lost.
No more Singapore Spirit.
Just like no more Singapore identity and culture soon.
Haiz.
The only way is to vote PAP out.
The spirit of a nation cannot simply be ascribed in political terms. It composes the social, cultural and racial mores (be it right or wrong) and beliefs, emblems, motifs, songs, music, arts, lingua and speeches etc. and endless details of anthropological and psychological states of emotions, particularly espoused strongly in any contexts and situations, the character and personality of the peoples.
In short, the spirit cannot be enforced by any dictatorial or political means to regulate or align towards any desired political or social objectives.
