I READ with interest Mr Kam Jit Yaw's suggestion on Tuesday for a 'new look' for HDB flats using earth or black, grey and white tones ('Block design: Go beyond the same old style of filling in candy colours').
My estate in Nanyang had such a colour scheme - sandy yellow and clay or brick reddish-brown - and the effect was depressing at best and institutional at worst. A black-and-white colour scheme would be even worse.
My estate is currently undergoing repainting and my family and I are very pleased that 'candy colours' of white, blue and green now cover my neighbourhood.
Kudos to my neighbours and our town council for injecting a fresh, lively vibe into a sleepy part of Singapore.

grey, black and dark colour are no good colours; absorb heat.
