I REFER to last Thursday's letter ("Timely reminder on treating maids right"). Singaporeans need to do some soul searching on how they treat their maids.
It is very tough for maids to leave their homes and families for a foreign land, where they have to not only adapt to a new environment but also learn new skills quickly.
As Singaporeans, we enjoy a high standard of living in a first-class nation. Let us not, in the pursuit of success and material wealth, forget to treat our maids like fellow human beings.
Treat them fairly and with respect. Provide them with fair working conditions. They are here to assist us in caring for our family and household - not to be our slaves.

I agree...they should treat the Mothers to their children well.
Its about mutual respect. Almost all the maids listens to instructions given by their direct employer only others who ask them to do extra task, they will ignore - "My madam didn't ask me to do it!"
Filipino maids are the most calculative.
as in anything, there are always the good and the bad and something in between.
I agree. Maids are also humans. We're living in a society in which we don't have to worry about three meals a day. Not everyone in the world is given this privilege. Maids are just people who are not as fortunate as us to be born in such an environment. And what rights do we have to mistreat them when being born in a privileged society is a gift and not something earned by ourselves.
thats what u get from an overeducated workforce
if maid are born with grey cells, they would be maid
