oh please. vote in incompetent parties to 'boost' morale? look at all the success stories like hitler. for ten years, he had to fight for power before succeeding. look at obama. overnight flights cross-country everywhere to harness support, never backing down to the numerous racist americans that broke up his rallies. no one is gonna vote in useless parties. singaporeans will only notice parties who stick around after elections, no matter what campaigning till the next elections and never giving up. right now? i dont see any parties with that sort of leadership. when PAP rose to power, u think they had it easy? the malaysians just decided to 'boost' opposition morale and let them in? they fought for support.

lets wait till the election after this year's one, ok? lets see who, after this election still sticks around and doesnt give up, whoever that is, THEN ill vote for him in the future elections. DONT BE STUPID. vote for half-assed parties i dont know if they'll be "gone like the wind" now? what if they're WORST than PAP? what then? vote in a useless, indecisive party that hampers the PAP? no way man. stop fooling around will ya?

i just wish my area walkover. i couldn't be cothered to vote. sg so small. what ides can anyone think of. ask them to expand out land and come up with our own brand of natueral resources? they keep pushing me peears and floortraps like some harcore door to door salesman.

WHO, in his or her right mind would anyhow vote in oppositon that they dont even know will be competent enough? then what? fill the parliament with losers that obstruct constructive leadership? how on earth do u think singaporeans can be SOOO STUPID to let a stranger into their homes or rather let in a close friend? like friendship, our STUPID, weak opposition has to earn our respect, and not like EVERY election, DISAPPEAR. cut the crap about 'boosting morale'. its like saying, why dont harvard lower their standards? does it work? sadly, no. what happens? they gett LOUSIER STUDENTS. LOTS of PARTIES, LOTS of political freedom, BUT NOTHING GETS DONE! who's gonna agree with each other? face it. PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTATION WAS A FAILURE. stop trying to bring it back.

what's the fuss ? Even if you hate the opposition and go on to vote for PAP nobody is stopping you.

5million population in such a small island. no wonder mrts and buses are filled to the brim/max even in off peak hours. I once took a train at 11pm, still alot of people packed in the mrt, as though it is peak hour in the mornings and evenings.

Peak shopping hours just ended at 11pm. That's why you saw so many people heading home at 11pm. Most of the shopping malls close 10.30 - 11pm. -
they have to use the total land are of sg island and divide by 5.08miliion people. if the answer less than international standard for the area per person then really sg is too conjested. why we don;t feel it , because we all live in high rise flats mah silly. but it is still ovecrowed, with floor traps everywhere. be carefukl don;t fall into the floor traps because their aim is to collect filthy water and prepare cockroaches from entering your house.

THE former chief executive of the Housing and Development Board and the Urban Redevelopment Authority, Dr Liu Thai Ker, confidently said that "the quality of life in Singapore will not be affected even if the population were to hit 7.5 million people" ("S'pore has room for 7.5m people: Ex-HDB chief", Sept 9).
His optimism appears to be underpinned mainly on the premise that "since we have planned for 5.5 million people (in the Singapore Concept Plan 1991), if we increase to, say, 6, 6.2 million, I think that additional 10 to 12 per cent will not make a huge difference".
However, 7.5 million people is a whopping 36 per cent increase and elasticity must surely have its limits, with an eventual snapping point, which could have disastrous repercussions and consequences.
Dr Liu's experience in the housing sector may have blinkered him into thinking only of providing accommodation for any increase in numbers.
A 50-storey block of flats would, of course, be able to house double the number of a 25-storey one but would it be possible to provide the necessary corresponding infrastructure and supporting facilities as well to ensure that "the quality of life in Singapore will not be affected"?
That is debatable, despite Dr Liu's lecture on "the importance of urban planning". As that well-known phrase goes: "The best-laid plans of mice and men oft go awry" and so too do theoretical calculations and projections.
For example, the less-than-3 million population in the early '90s has burgeoned to more than 5 million today but, despite the many improvements, public transport is not the projected breeze.
The MRT stations were designed so that a very definite six-coach train would fit into them with no possibility of adding more coaches to each train. Commuters now often wait for two or three to pass before they can get into one of them because of the overcrowding. -

After all, 10 to 12% difference will not make a huge difference.
