A DISTRICT judge, who fined a man $3,000 for punching a 10-year-old boy, told him that there was no excuse for what he did.
District Judge Shaiffudin Saruwan said on Tuesday he was imposing the fine on operations manager Lim Chee Kiong after noting that the injuries suffered by the victim were not that serious.
Lim, a first offender, had pleaded guilty to causing hurt to the Primary 5 student at Pasir Ris Downtown East in Pasir Ris Close on Dec 16 last year.
The court heard that Lim's nephew had complained that the victim had accidentally hit him with a plastic ball while playing in the games area that evening.
After the nephew had identified the victim, Lim was seen grabbing the victim by his shirt, pulling him out of the area and punching him on the cheek.
The impact caused the victim to fall to the ground. Lim was stopped by security officers on duty.
The victim's father, a 38-year-old technician, was also hauled to court for punching Lim that evening.
But the court rejected his guilty plea after the man indicated that he wished to make representations to the prosecution.
Lim, who said he realised that what he did was wrong, could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined up to $5,000.

Remind me of the NP(or was it NYP) fight...
"I fell down and kick someone on the head"
the guy go and "take revenge" for his nephew..
then the victim's father go and "take revenge" for his son...
this is like some kind of those 70s martial arts movie where the guy go and take revenge because the enemy killed his father who killed the enemy's uncle who made a pass at his grandfather's niece.. and so on and so forth
the judge should say in judgement, "怨怨相报何时了".

A MAN whose 10-year-old son was punched by a stranger hit back at the attacker.
For voluntarily causing hurt to operations manager Lim Chee Kiong, 44, the 38-year-old technician was fined $1,000 on Tuesday after pleading guilty.
The court heard that the technician had left his son, then a Primary 5 student, and daughter at the eXplorerkid indoor playground at Downtown East on Dec 16 last year to play while he went window-shopping.
About an hour later, he received a call from a woman operations manager who said that a man had punched his son.
The father rushed to the playground at Pasir Ris Close and saw a bruise on his son's left cheek. He asked the complainant to call the police and for Mr Lim to return to the scene.
As soon as Mr Lim came, the accused confronted him about the incident and punched him on the left cheek. Mr Lim was fined $3,000 in August for punching the boy. The maximum penalty for causing hurt is a jail term of up to two years and/or a fine of up to $5,000.
Should call the police and let the police settle it.
Claim for any medical compensation and ensure that man get jail and fine.
