SINGAPORE : More than 1,000 people had their heads shaved on
Sunday to create awareness of cancer in children.
Mr Ravi Sivalingam, chairman of the Children's Cancer Foundation, led by
example and showed that going bald is hardly hair-raising at all.
President SR Nathan and Senior Minister of State for Law and Home
Affairs, Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee also graced the event.
Organised by the Children's Cancer Foundation, the Hair for Hope event
is in support of children with cancer, who typically lose their hair
during chemotherapy.
The foundation wants to show the children that they are not alone in
their fight against the disease, and that there's nothing wrong in
losing their hair.
Some 1,100 had earlier registered online to get their heads shaved, and
about one in five are female.
Individuals can also register at the event.
The foundation hopes to raise S$750,000 through the event. - CNA /ls
