SINGAPORE : Three Singaporeans are believed to be among those
injured and hospitalised, after two speedboats collided off the island
of Koh Phangan in Thailand on Saturday night.
No details are currently available on the identity or ages of the
injured.
Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ministry said it is aware of the
incident and is in contact with the injured Singaporeans and their next
of kin.
It is also rendering consular assistance to them.
Authorities in Thailand said at least 42 people were injured while two
are missing after the collision.
The boats were taking some 70 local and foreign tourists to the Full
Moon Party at Koh Phangan.
The monthly event attracts thousands of young, mostly Western tourists.
Authorities said the collision took place about two to three kilometres
before the boats reached the Rin Beach.
It was almost midnight.
It was reported that heavy rain and low visibility might have been a
factor in the accident.
Police said the injured were rushed to hospitals on Koh Phangan.
Two are in serious condition with head injuries.
Among the injured are Australian, Irish, Norwegian, and Malaysian
tourists. - CNA /ls
