The other thread was spotted with criticisms on the local govt as such is closed. Wow, this sgf cannot tolerate people criticise govt, so petty, narrow minded, or is it just one person that is against it, hahahah.
Heavy downpour causes flooding, road chaos
Posted: 25 June 2010 0911 hrs
SINGAPORE: The heavy downpour Friday morning is causing chaos on the roads.
MediaCorp received several calls about floods.
Upper Thomson Road near the junction of Sin Ming Road is reported to be flooded.
Another area is Jalan Boon Lay in the direction of Corporation Road.
The downpour accompanied by gusty winds also caused branches to break off trees.
One such incident near Orchard Central along Orchard Road blocked two lanes of traffic.
The Meteorological Services Division had issued a heavy rain warning.
It said flash floods which could occur in low-lying areas.
Another 50 year freak event in Orchard Road this month.
Jln Boon Lay still flooded?
27 incidents reported on onemotoring webbie riao. faulty traffic lights, fallen tree branches I guess not to count jams
when got flood
simply blame the weather
as simple as that
I was on PIE exiting Paya Lebar, the traffic light intersection water level also quite high, quite scary cause I thought my car going to turn to a James Bond Lotus Esprit.

Paya Lebar another traditional flood prone area
Actually they should have planned ahead like Malaysia's KL car tunnels cum drainage system.

That is not due to construction problems that the tunnel cannot have dual usage.
Once the tunnel is flooded, all the motorway will be filled with water, when they reopen the tunnel for use again, they would have to clear all the rubbish and inspect all the electricals.
I think the PAP government should make better use of the flood, instead of making a butterfly trail, they should improvised and make Singapore into another Venice, more Singaporeans can learn to sing and row gondolas.
Singapore the next Venice of Asia.

Good idea, more eco friendly but I think should use sampans instead of gondolas
provided the water dun subside.
Venice, with sampan, not bad huh..
More buildings means less water will return to the water table underground, means there will be more run offs to the drains.
If the capacity of the drains are not increased it usually leads to flooding.
Goes to show that PAP is more a feedback system than a feedforward system.
When it rains, water from most urban buildings and hard surfaces is directed through downpipes, drains and gullies into the drainage system. Some downpipes from the roofs of domestic properties are directed into a soak-away and so return to the water table naturally but in urban areas, or from large buildings the water is whisked away into drainage systems.

It's bad feng shui lah.
it takes time....give'em a break...
but the idea of strainers or meshed gratings was such a primitive used in many estates were now adopted by govt? strange......perhaps in terms of costs, it is the cheapest....
no doubt a temporary measure.....more high tech methods should be explored than just relying on meshes or strainers....bio-degradable is still costly
