STOMPer mosessupposes was fined by SBS Transit last week for staying longer than it was allowed in the MRT station, after he had tapped in with his EZ-link card.
The STOMPer wrote in his email:
"Apparently, there is limit to the time you can stay in the stations after you've tapped in.
"I was fined $2 last week by SBS Transit for staying too long in the MRT station.
"I started off at Braddell station and alighted at Punggol
"Normally, the journey would take about 30 to 40 minutes.
"That day, I chatted a little too long with a friend at the MRT platform in Braddell station.
"My EZ-link card wouldn't work when I tried to exit at Punggol.
"I then approached the control station and the officer told me it was because I had exceeded the time limit I was allowed to stay in the stations.
"I didn't know before that this was how it worked.
"Anyone else has a similar experience?"

If i'm not wrong, the limit is 2 hours, because that time I went train spotting and didn't realise the time limit, now i'm more cautious. ^_^
why the need for such a regulation?
what have they got to lose?

Dunno... Maybe because of the station gets overcrowded easily? Or for the Security?

of course they need such a rule.
if not you can joyride one round around singapore and pay for 1 stop alr.
what if someone uses MRT to move goods from city hall to lakeside, back and forth back and forth for 5 or 6 hours, another person pass it to him over the gantry, after the whole thing he alight at chinese garden, charge him 1 stop?
Stupid stomper, never read the bus/mrt guide before, there are indeed time limits imposed on travelling. He didn't get fined, he only paid for the full fare for exceeding time limit.
The time limits are stated at the control station office.
I've seen them before. a certain number of stops, e,g, 1 stop away to maybe 5, max 20mins.
6 to 10 maybe 40mins etc..
I think another problem is crowd controlling at the stations, particularly the areas imemdiate to the entrance and exit gantries. I always see banglas and foreign workrs standing very near to the entrance and exit area don;t know acting blurr or on drugs, and during rush hours or times when people exit or enter the gantries. really hog up traffic flow and i think in situations like this the MRT staff or people pn patrol should get them out of the way. similarly for areas near ticketing machine, atm or any cash transactional automated machine. no privacy.
