SINGAPORE : More than 2,500 people went barefoot and walked five
kilometres at the East Coast Park for a good cause on Saturday.
It is to remember people from other parts of the world who are so poor
they cannot afford shoes.
Flagging them off was former cabinet minister and chairman of Temasek
Holdings, S Dhanabalan.
The organiser of Habitat-Barclays Bare Your Sole 2010 said the charity
walk is a symbolic act to remember people in Third World countries who
carry on their daily activities without proper footwear.
Without shoes, they are exposed to the danger of being cut by broken
glass and discarded sharp objects.
Hopefully, those who bared their soles will also be more aware of the
areas where they can help the poor. - CNA/ms
