A CREDIT CARD promotion by Citibank, offering golfing privileges to card holders at various country clubs, has landed the bank in a legal wrangle.
Laguna National Golf and Country Club has sued the bank, contending that Citibank had made falsely stated claims on its website and in a newspaper article that card holders could enjoy access to the club's golfing facilities.
The club says there was no such tie-up and that the bank's malicious statements had 'seriously injured' its business and caused it to suffer losses.
But the bank, which had engaged an independent vendor to arrange golfing privileges for its cardholders, says it had honestly believed at the time that the statements were true.
The bank says no malice was intended; neither were the statements likely to cause damage to the club.
