I feel as a chinese singaporean, I am unable to relate to ang mos. Their culture is diametrically opposed to non whites, in terms of the jokes they make and sometimes a sense of their patronising action inevitably arises. When I go for scuba diving lessons, they will be ang mos. Then when I go for weekend sky diving lessons in Jakarta, majority of them are ang mos who are living here.
So far I have no success in finding a "non ang mo" Singapore group to join. I envisage this group to be made up of chinese, indians, malays and other foreign non-whites like middle easterners and vietnamese etc where individuals with similar interests can pair up and organise a diving trip for instance. Or another group within the group will go fishing every Saturday...
Does any one out there know of such a group in Singapore? Or any suggestion on how to find people who enjoy the activities i enjoy but with similar mindsets? (I can't possibly go to a scuba facility and yell "does anyone want to form an asian only group". First, it sounds out of the ordinary. Second they will assume I'm crazy).
take up Chinese calligraphy.
Do you only interact with ang mos when you go on these trips and not in your daily life in Singapore? If so then of course you are not used to them, it takes time around people to understand their culture and sense of humour and so on.
Anyway.. You could try using the Meet Up website, am not sure how popular it is though:

Maybe if you get at least one or two other Asians or Singaporeans to go with you on these trips it will not be so bad, even if there are some ang mos present.
No I will never go with whites. I studied in a white country n I've seen wat I have to see. Either the group is all asians or middle easterners or africans or I'll never join it. I've seen wat many of them do to non-whites and I'm not prepared to offer them the privilege of being in my company. Besides don't they have enough privileges ALREADY without Singaporeans adding more to their egos?
Actually after looking at the meetup website, it seems something near to wat I'm looking for. THKS Oirish. Appreciate it.
