IT SADDENS me when I read the report about the young neglecting to care for their parents ('Good son fights for all neglected parents'; May 7).
My parents live on their own in Bishan too. My father is a 75-year-old retired civil servant and my mother, a housewife, is 69.
I visit my parents every Sunday and have lunch with them in their home along with my wife and two sons. We have been doing this for the past 15 years.
Every Sunday morning, my family visits Tekka market to buy the ingredients and necessary groceries and then lunch at my parents' home.
My two sons, aged 15 and 10, like these family-bonding activities. My sons know that however busy or preoccupied I am on Sundays, I make it a point to spend time with my parents, without fail.
The Government should think of more ways to encourage filial piety, which will in turn encourage children to live with their parents or spend time regularly with them.

'If our children continue to sponge on us when they are employed, where's filial piety?'
MS TAN ENG LIAN: 'I refer to the report, 'Old folks in S'pore an asset to their families' (April 30). How long must a parent provide for an unmarried graduate in his 30s who still lives under the same roof? How does one ask for money when he refuses to give? How does a parent tell him to move out? When I was younger, I helped support my parents, but in my old age, I continue to support my children. If our children continue to sponge on us when they are employed, where's filial piety?'
