PUT together the sizzling weather and a hot economy and what do you get?
Energy consumption at a record high, as happened last month, when industries and households guzzled more power than at any other time in the last seven years.
Figures released by the Energy Market Company (EMC) yesterday showed that despite the steady rise in prices, energy consumption reached a new average high of 5,099 megawatts over a half-hour period last month.
That is the equivalent of switching on 102 million 50W light bulbs for an hour.
The second-highest consumption recorded since the electricity market in Singapore was liberalised seven years ago was in March, with 5,039 megawatts over a half-hour period on average.
The figures are derived by taking an average of the electricity consumed over half-hour periods throughout the day.
