SINGAPORE: A cabby and his passenger were hurt after a tree fell
onto their taxi in a thunderstorm Friday evening.
They were sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
The incident happened at Turf Club Avenue and caused a traffic jam in
the area.
A motorist, Mr He, who was caught in the jam, said: "I came out from my
office at Mandai Estate. The tree was already down. It was very big. It
affected both sides of the road."
Police received a call about the case at around 5.30pm.
The road has been cleared.
Another tree also succumbed to the elements and caused congestion in
North Bridge Road on the same evening.
Mr Sim, who was on his way home on the bus, said: "The downpour caused
the tree to fall and hit a taxi. It was about 20 metres tall. It covered
the entire road.
"The leaves were strewn on the road. The tree blocked the entire road
and buses could not go through. Traffic Police had to come in and
re-route every bus."
No one was injured in this incident.
