The small island, untouched by development, can be a resort-like green retirement village where the clean atmosphere, fresh breeze from the sea and lovely beaches will make for a healthy and relaxing environment in the golden years of life.
For families visiting their aged parents on weekends, it will be wholesome fun and a refreshing break from the chores of urban life.
The young can also spend the day on the island, cycling or going on a nature walk.

she's retired??
so if we all retire there, will the island sink?
cannot!
Mabok Tongue wants to sell the land to condo developers!
A smaller dot in the little red dot? You all ok ar not?
Why can't old people stay why must think of Johor or Ubin? Like that all run to Romania lah
Why must throw the oldies out of sight?
I think PAP prefers to export old Singaporeans to die in foreign countries.
Or just kill off all the sickly old folks.
If they are useless, cannot squeeze money out of them, then they must all die.
they throwing the old to an island?? what's wrong w the gahmen??
but if the old people need to go hospital, they must first cycle to jetty, then take boat, then take cab go changi hospital leh. . . .
Thats his real intention lor , so that his parent die faster then he can get their assets .
For me ... Please don't touch ubin ok . It is the last kampung lifestyle environment that sg has and not to mention it is lying on a big piece of coral reef . if you develop the land , 99% the coral there will be destroyed or killed due to construction becasue they are the most fragile living things in the ocean . Ask any salt water aquarium owner and they can assure you that . If more pple were to go to this island , i dare to say that most of the coral will be killed due to ignorant pple trying to remove or play with it . Although now they built a platform for pple to walk ard . Many modern pple simply don't appreciate and don't know how to take care of nature . They like to live in enclosed spaces else they feel awkward . Thats why they keep asking to develop this and that . After development then they complain too exp this and that . Very shallow really . Look what happen to sentosa is a very good example already . Complain expensive ?
Because you all ask to develop it . many nice rustic places for example Haw Par Villa were destroyed after " some pple " tried to so call " develop " it . The Haw Par Villa you see now is after the " failed investment " by certain company trying to milk money from it . The original creator wanted to do his part for poor families to have a place to go for free . So after they fail to make money they claim to " restore it " but in actual fact its only 30% restored back to original form because it would cost another bomb to fully restore to former glory .

if we were to answer this question, we'd be here for the rest of the year and the sgforums server would explode

Don't think it's that serious.
MR JEFFREY Tan ('Retirement village: Pulau Ubin an ideal choice') and Miss Angeline Elysia Tan ('The hope') meant well on April 19 about introducing retirement villages for senior citizens.
Certainly, more can be done for senior citizens to have a meaningful and wholesome life in their twilight years.
But the idea and concept of placing them on an island or in a village is not one that should even be considered, no matter how well we develop such a place with easy accessibility for visits thrown in.
At a time when we are encouraging our young to be filial and look after their ageing parents, conveniently packing their parents off to an island or village is not the solution. Spending quality time with their parents and looking after their welfare is.
And because many today are all too often busy with their career and own family, it makes more sense to live with, or at least be near, their parents.
It may be true that senior citizens will benefit from the peace and tranquillity of an island or a village.
However, by the same token, it will ultimately detach them from their family and the Singapore they worked so hard to help build.

Youngsters like to get the elderlies out of their sights.
No use de.
Once it becomes a retirement village, the nature and landscapes will all be replaced by concrete elderly homes for the elderly with fencing all over the prevent the elderly from committing suicide or running away. =X
