ok whats transitive and intransitive verbs?
past tense and present tense ?
Bolo Santosi is Eurasian. LOL... Reported in Sunday Times last Sunday. Singapore born Eurasian but now resides in London.
Anyway, it has to do with our kindergarten teachers and parents alike.
Since childhood, we have already been exposed to Singlish. No doubt it is in our tongue.
I cant help it, but feel like "Zzzz" ... especially when I go to the zoo... Those aunties and uncles who cant speak proper English try to speak to their children in English.
"See that one, that one is monkey".... Monkey you know... Monkey...
I was like "WTF"... Thats an orang utan, not a monkey! Zzz....
Most of our kindergarten teachers in the past, no doubt, are probably only secondary school eduated. They cant speak proper English, especially at those heavily subsidised childcare centres and kindergartens.
yeah quite true :D

u see, u sure u got learned your grammar at tuition centres for transitive and intransitive verbs.
these is a must have for every sentences. what are they?
what is a noun and a verb?
Yes
One more to add:
At the supermarket:
Mummy and Daddy: Lai... Pay money liao... Come come give (or throw) cashier.
Child: OK lor....
When it should be. Lets checkout now. Pass your items to the cashier.
OR Let's pay up. Pass your items to the cashier.
English standards are dropping .
The standard of English is declining worldwide but faster with the SMS culture.
Also many cannot distinguish the use of "affect/effect", "than, then" and irregular verbs regularise like "burn, burrnt" to "burn, burned".
Some reputable writers and news too add to the problems. A common error is "Most importantly". The correct use should be "Most important".
SMS has disadvantages.
China's chinese proficiency dropping too due to smses I think .
the degeneration of languages by SMSes.
I use t9 dict to type :D
@rooney :X sori la i so long nv go school , er noun is th main thing verb is th action :/

I saw university students speaking Singlish in the campus, maybe that's why.
The main problem of singlish is not just the use of lah, lei, lor. It's pretty easy to differentiate one who speak Singaporean english and 'western' english. I'm in the broken english category.
1) phonetic system , Use of 'th' Three = tree
2) sentence structure
3) tone
Though we think we speak proper english, the actual fact is that it's a far cry from western standards.
We MAY speak singlish on our everyday basis but just don't let it inflict us so much that we write singlish on our english exams....yeah,imagine if you forgotten that you had gone for your O-levels and you write satay sticks instead of splints....Cambridge people would say...what does thoust mean by sat-day-sick?

I think they will understand your satay sticks, a word that long been assimilated into English usage.
