Protect Merlion from snap-happy tourists
OVER-ENTHUSIASTIC tourists are damaging the tiles at the base of the Merlion and putting themselves in danger - just to get that postcard-perfect photo.
They trample on the 'waves' at the base of the Merlion, causing damage to the tiles. Imagine someone getting a deep cut because of the broken tiles, or worse, a child slipping and falling into the Singapore River.
The Singapore Tourism Board or the authorities concerned should do something before someone gets hurt or more damage is done to the Merlion.
Those cheap plastic chains surrounding the Merlion obviously do nothing to deter people from climbing over. Perhaps the next time the Merlion has a facelift - I hope before the Youth Olympic Games in August - a planter bed of bougainvillea (prickly but pretty) could be placed around the base to protect the landmark from the mob of tourists thronging the park every day.

Hire snipers around the area, if someone is damaging the merlion. just headshot him.

It is a tourism icon.
As long as they do not bring a hammer to destroy or a matchstick to light up the icon, its OK. -

The Merlion is a stupid creation & should be gotten rid off. What's a Merlion? the offspring from the mating of a land dwelling lion and a sea swimming mermaid? totally brain damaging spastic myth creation by the tourist board.

Merlion being 'trampled to death'?

STOMPer Burn has an axe to grind.
He feels that over enthusiastic tourists are damaging our national icon, the Merlion, in their eagerness to take a photograph with it.
Said Burn, 'The glass tiles forming the waves at the base of the Merlion suffered substantial damages as can be seen in some of the pictures; this could be an awful accident waiting to happen.
'STB or the relevant authorities should do something before someone gets hurt or more damages is done to the Merlion.'
