'Having to get on and off more in order to transfer can be physically taxing for the elderly.'
MR WONG WENG FAI: 'I refer to Monday's report, 'Govt to review long bus routes'. Many of us are concerned that splitting up long routes may lead to higher bus fares overall. Also, having to get on and off more in order to transfer can be physically taxing for the elderly. Rather than a blanket removal of all long-haul routes, perhaps they can be reduced or confined to certain operating hours. Also, private bus companies should be given the option to run such routes.'
The population is greying and the problem will grow.
