  I agree with noahnoah in a way in that what makes us famous is our diversity and the fact that we can live together harmoniously.

  Yes they are also man-made but they were not made in order to "trap" tourists. They have their own history and became iconic of their own right. The Merlion seems more like a bid by Singapore to create something to showcase to the rest of the world.
