young people

YOUTH Challenge, a once high-profile charity known for sending
students overseas to do humanitarian work, is closing.
The 25-year-old organisation is no longer relevant as there
are many charities now that engage young people, said its seven-member
board, some of whom had stepped up to the plate to lead the charity in
2006 when a Commissioner of Charities probe into it began.
The proposal to close was upheld by 28 of its 39 registered
members at an extraordinary general meeting on Saturday, said its
president Looi Teck Kheong, a 44-year-old lawyer who has been on the
board since 2006.
