  Pots, pans, phones and even abalone. Has SingPost gone overboard? SingPost's move into retailing may mean longer queues, but also higher revenue.

  
  

  MAILING a parcel or buying stamps at the post office is not so straightforward these days. Expect to be ambushed to buy insurance or be greeted by piles of abalone, pots and pans and ovens stacked in an already cramped post office.

  At the bigger Singapore Post (SingPost) outlets, there is a long directory of services to scan before you can figure out which queue to join.

  The smaller heartland post offices have just one queue - but it can mean a long line where customers are doing everything from paying bills and transferring money to comparing the prices of abalone on sale.

  Non-postal goods such as television sets on sale at the SingPost outlet in Ngee Ann City. Busier outlets have dedicated queues for different transactions, but smaller outlets have just one queue. A decision on such queues is based on 'demographics and traffic in the post office', a SingPost spokesman said.

  Singpost is owned by govt, this has been so from the beginning, no change about it.

  in fact, singpost has this online website called VPost

  this VPost enables shipment of goods from places previously not avaliable by making use of its overseas branches or contacts

  they are making quite a pile from it
