SINGAPORE : Singapore President S R Nathan hosted a reception at
the Istana on Friday for the first Singaporean woman to ski to the
South Pole recently.
IT consultant and mother of three, Sophia Pang, was part of an eight-member team that went on the expedition to Antarctica.
The team comprised of women from Commonwealth countries like New
Zealand, India, Jamaica and the United Kingdom. They reached the South
Pole on December 29 last year, after skiing hundreds of kilometres in
daunting conditions.
Ms Pang said: "The expedition started way (back) in 2007, when our
expedition leader, Felicity, came up with the idea of getting a team of
women from ordinary backgrounds. In fact, more than half the team has
not done an expedition like this before. I myself have never skied for
such a long time."
Lim Hwee Hua, Minister, Prime Minister's Office, said: "Sophia has
done Singapore proud, and her historic achievement has marked a
milestone in our history.
"Her accomplishment will no doubt continue to inspire many of us to
step out of our comfort zones, to create or embrace opportunities and
overcome challenges that come our way." - CNA/ms

The same elaborate deco is seen around singapore.
Are we not just recovering from recession ?
You pay the tax and you be the judge.
As for the prata man, if he is downgraded to open some mall in orchard road, then why do we need such a expensive ribbon cutter ?
