SINGAPORE - When the licenses of the 15 London Cabs expire next March, wheelchair commuters can expect to ride in a new fleet of wheelchair accessible taxis.
The Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) will be awarding grants to taxi companies to operate taxis that can accommodate larger and high-back motorised wheelchairs.
The MCYS has invited taxi companies to submit proposals to apply for the grant by June 25.The grant will help defray part of the higher cost of the larger taxis as well as the cost of setting up the service.
Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports Chan Chun Sing said: "I understand the anxiety among London Cab users about the phasing out of these taxis in 2013. Through this grant, MCYS seeks to encourage taxi operators to operate a new fleet of wheelchair accessible taxis about double the number of the current London Cabs."
Interesting...
There is only one brand of cab that MCYS actually needed - MaxiCabs .
They should also need to study . . . the money that will be paid to drivers for such jobs .
Not just giving grants to taxi companies .
MCYS can grant a MaxiCab to CDG for example , but when CDG charge driver $168 for a Viano . . . when i rent a Viano for $168 from CDG , i will be aiming at bigger jobs , not jobs with $2.50 booking fee .
Cos it's the driver who has the final say to whether i will be picking up those jobs .
U have have all kinds of grants to the taxi companies , but no drivers to do those jobs , where got meaning for such grants ?
Unless when i was interview before i sign for a MaxiCab , that market rate for this MaxiCab is $168 , but CDG will rent to me at $100 per day , with MCYS grant ...... but condition , i must do jobs detailed by MCYS , maybe some might consider .
if the grants dun go to taxi driver , goes to taxi companies ..... then hard lah hahahaha
There is a possibility of rental deduction for each job detailed by MCYS.
Example, for each job detailed by MCYS, you get $20 discount off the daily rental.
If you never do, then no discount. Pay full rental.
Ya today also kanna one at Serangoon Ave 2. Around 945H after peak all the cheapo come out and report along the main road. I put change shift AMK and after interviewing a few this lady happily says AMK Ave 10. Then I also happily take. Then she says turn into the carpark and I thinking "Horseh liao, bo hor kang tao lai liao...." True enough we are taking a wheel chair ah pek. I went down help them store the wheelchair in the boot and wait for them to help the ah pek in the cab. Imagine my meter $5.20 and I finish my cigarettes then they are good to go. Anyway it's on the way home and see that they are those quite poor people decide to waive the fare of $8.50 since it is along the way home so treat it as a good deed loh.....
well doen hammer,
as for the grant, i only can say, it is going into TC pocket, not tds government say so loud, take money from left and into the right pocket

Practically both can despatch wheelchair boubd passengers .
But it used to be SMRT London Cab who tendered for the grant , and their obligations was , or rather , a must to support their programmes .
Now LondonCab scrapping liao . . . It's either Ssangyong or MaxiCab for those grants .
Anyway Government's money not easy to earn one .
CDG knew that .
