Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to make an offer for Manchester United
goalkeeper Ben Foster in the January transfer window, according to a
report in the British tabloid the Sun.
Apparently, Spurs
manager Harry Redknapp feels that he will provide healthy competition
for current White Hart Lane number one, Heurelho Gomes.
Gomes,
who has been capped on 17 occassions by Brazil, endured a torrid start
to his goalkeeping career in England following a series of blunders.
Although
the 27-year-old's form has improved significantly recently, it is
thought that Redknapp remains keen to add some cover to the goalkeeping
department.
Edwin van der Sar is the current first choice at Old
Trafford and with Foster having to compete with Tomasz Kuszczak for the
back-up role, his chances of regular first-team football with the Red
Devils are very limited.
Furthermore, the England international
is believed to be out of contract at the end of this season and while
United are reported to have offered a new £15,000-a-week contract,
Spurs are claimed to be offering £20,000.
