Assuming I do not have any symptoms, will I pass it on to my own children?Originally posted by renorenal:When you develop the symptoms... it would be impractical to do a DNA profiling and match with hers to see whether it is theoretically inherited even though the human genome project is nearly 90% mapped...

If it is hereditary, nothing much can be done...Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Dear Doctor,
I have sweaty palms and my mother says it is due to the lack of the vitamins and minerals. I have read some health magazines and they said that sweaty palms are inherited. My grandmother has it and my cousin has it too. By the way, I am picky about food. Does it affect?

I'm sorry...Originally posted by bladez87:on a more serious note...how to prevent drooling in sleep? or on bus or on mrt when you nap? haha. i dont drool outside but i sometimes drool when sleeping at home.

However, on a ruling out diagnosis note, I would encourage a thorough check on your cranial nerves by an examining doctor. The salivary glands are controlled by Cranial Nerve 7 and 9. They control its secretion.

Oh yeah, you're right... I miss out the word during sleep... salivary glands can be manually activated if you apply pressure onto it, the most common ones are the parotid glands, which are located in front of and below the ears. Sleeping on a hard surface will usually lead to excessive salivary secretion, whereas like mystiv did mention, these cranial nerves are parasympathetic (a component of autonomic nervous system activated during resting, relaxing and sleeping) and that means it releases saliva during relaxation.Originally posted by mystiv:so serious? thought its natural that ur muscles will relax when u sleep and in certain sleeping position cause drooling..
If this excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) problem is severe, there is a surgical operation (selective sympathectomy) that can be performed. Essentially it is cutting off some nerves that cause sweating. You may read more below:Originally posted by renorenal:If it is hereditary, nothing much can be done...

These terms refer to histological changes that are pre-malignant but not yet cancerous. There are genetic aberrations that underlie these changes. As you might expect, high grade dysplasia is more severe and carries more risk of turning into a cancer compared to low grade dysplasia.Originally posted by hisoka:kkz then i ask how to differentiate a low grade and high grade dysplasia lor. always see those terms and dunno what they mean one
Just to add to above...a bug known as Helicobacter pylori is quite common and can give rise to anything from gastritis to ulcers and cancers. There is a simple breath test that can detect this organism, which can be treated with antibiotics. Your GP can easily refer you for this investigation.Originally posted by renorenal:The typical insult to the gastric lining is
first inflammation of the stomach wall --> gastritis
continuous insult will lead to breach of all defensive mechanism of the stomach agaisnt the acidic environment and form an ulcer crate --> peptic ulcer disease
if these are not treated effectively, these ulcers will turn malignant over years and inevitably, this is untreatable, or poor course / prognosis --> gastric carcinoma
The only way to find out if you have an ulcer is through an upper GI endoscopy or traditionally known as OGDS (oesophagogastroduodenoscopy)...
The second method which is less used nowadays is called the barium meal where you are supposed to drink this dye and an X ray is then taken, but this is not very useful nowadays with the invention of endoscopes...
Not severe. Affects my palms only.Originally posted by renorenal:Ouch! Hahaha... hey oxford thanks! I need more of your help in here...
