Uber guarantees minimum hourly earnings for private drivers-....
Before jumping in, I need to know whether a driver can survive or not doing UberX + Grabcar (and hopefully SMRTcar and ComfortCar later) - without all the incentives thrown in.
I think when LTA requires all drivers to have a TDVL, then it will be good to jump because :
1. Pax will be more assured that drivers are licensed and demand for cars should increase
2. Fewer drivers since many of the current drivers don't have TDVL and surely many will fall out. Supply of cars decrease.
More demand + less supply = good earnings for drivers.
So maybe wait out a few months to see how. Meanwhile sweeping the streets still quite good...
Yes if required taxi licence high chance many or some will fall
I observe some of those pte taxi drivers look young don't think 30yrs old
Today morning again see one ind gal driving lancer wit grabcar sticker around my carpark think she finding for the blk to pick up
Wear glove somemore lol
Past 2 days my evening calls also drop....

It is not those who hold supervisionary job like executives and line managers or supervisors that once left it is very hard to get back unless you got some nice toilet papers or mill certs, Taxi driving is anytime and anywhere have as long as you hv a valid TVDL.
So, it is good to venture out, test and see, if not good, can come back to TD, no harm done. But if Good, please dun forget all your brothers here hor, good lobang must share share hor….including me
Haha tio la
Wit taxi licence it's always a win win situation
Anytime can choose to be relief or super relief
My carpark one i40 hirer still finding for relief after he's ex left
Everytime see me ask got relief to recommend bo?
He advertise in driver portal also no one bite
I ask him "u can tong alone ah?"
He act cool say can la no prob do split shift lor lol
But it is still a risk to switch because car rental company most likely want you to commit for at least 3 months. So if during these 3months, uberx & grabcar drop their incentives, then cham liao. Yes can switch back to taxi but you already kena 3 months rental ...
Originally posted by bowah:I think from a business sense of view, UberX and grabCar also do not want to end up having a situation of got car, got pax, but no drivers.
This private car stuff is a recently entities, and could be still in it infant stage, therefore, the key now is to get drivers and improve paxs confident and availability, once they are able to secure a good market share of paxs at the lost of TDs on the road, the tide would change, incentives will drop as demand improve.
And today, entry to be a UberX and grabcar driver is much easier than taking up as a taxi companies’ hirer, there is no age limitation and TVDL/refresher needed. Therefore, it is a much easier entry job. As such, you will see higher competition for paxs.
I think LTA may come out with a different type of licensing for these pirate car drivers. Maybe no age & citizenship restrictions? Of course criminal records should be same as TDVL requirement.
Last night, after midnight, got a GT call (very rare) in Dempsey. Waited for ang mo char bo pax. Suddenly in front of me zoomed in one Toyota and some women came out and talk. One pax entered my cab while the others entered the Toyota.
Af first I thought their friend came to pick them up but my pax said that her friends used Uberx and she used GT.
So you see, one less customer for TDs liao. Had she also used Uberx, I would have lost this job as well.
Don't pray pray, this UberX phenomenon is taking hold here. Not just among ang moh but young savvy locals as well. This is something to watch out for.
Got to sharpen my sweeping skills even more in oder to survive as TD liao. Calls getting lesser although still quite good lah especially during peak hours and hot areas.

Unless heavy rain eve of public holiday or any major late nite events etc etc
Normal day it's a dead town
But who knows maybe only "special ones" will be able to receive it? lol
Last time got tis rumours too dunno true or not lol
Now all nationality also using pte taxi cheaper ma
It's a win win situation for the pax
Lucky harbourfront centre taxi stand pte taxi cannot go in unlike vivo
But they asking pax to cross over to pick up at the rd side(after the ramp) which I find it dangerous
Knn later kena bang then they know
tds pls watch out for them crossing hor
they also jamming up the exit rd fm harbourfront carpark(after the ramp) to pick up pax
During peak hr rush tis rd can be hell
Yesday saw security started to chase off some
Back to the days of 'pirate' taxis?
Read ....

The argument that chauffeured services have always been in existence is no comfort. With technology, the dynamics of the business have changed drastically. These services are in fact on-call taxis. Hence they should be regulated as such.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
technology change is on the booking system but the regulation for taxi service still need to apply.
Now chauffeured services become on-call taxis. No need to pay taxi licence, no need to follow taxi licence rules and no need TDVL for drivers.
Why we need the traditional taxi company and taxi service for wat? Just a matter of time, they will close shop if the authority allow chauffeured services become on-call taxis.
Like using street directory on TDVL test. LTA is ready out of touch with the current technology and what people needs and doing.
that why i said bring back yellow top taxi. and LTA ban uberX PTE cars but only licence yellow top taxi can do ubering or easy taxing or what apps that come. and not wonder http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-33267581. if this is happend here?
In my point of view- Not worth it
Last night past 1am at SG Flyer where the Beerfest Asia was held, lots of suspicious pte car parked nearby waiting... probably uber & grabcar waiting for calls. Luckily I got a ubertaxi call so went in to take pax.
Later went back again, still got people and pte cars waiting there. But they can't take street pax, so I just went and take one more...lol
Check it out night driver bros - tonight till Sunday night still on. Tonight & tomorrow ends at 2am. Sunday ends at 10 pm.... lots of business there.

No problems for me, all pax sober type. Of course, don't gong gong go & pick drunk type. So play safe, don't take calls, go & see see & pick good durians.
For night drivers, very hard to get pax after 1am so this is a lobang not to be missed. Unfortunately for me, tonight off early.
Huat Ah!
A NUS Law Professor has been criticized by the judge for lacking remorse in his attacks against a 70 year old taxi driver, which left the victim with serious injuries needing 17 days of medical leave (you may view the original article here). Judge Victor Yeo said that the foreigner NUS Law Professor, Sundram Peter Soosay, had ample time since judgment to make compensations to the victim, but nothing has been offered.
Judge Victor also criticized the defence’s arguments as fanciful and contrived, and the NUS Law Professor’s testimony to be “riddled with hindsight reasoning, convenient conjecture and hypothesis.” The judge then concluded:
“The accused has shown no sign of remorse.”
The judge gave the NUS Law Professor a jail term of four months and a court order for him to compensate the taxi driver S$1,500. The defence lawyer said that his client intends to lodge an appeal against the sentence.
