i'm surprised to know some of my friends joining this trade.
took class with smrt and passed and now await meter training.
but undecided to be hirer or relief...
but i can only conclude
Hirer / Relief
Advantages
1. OTOT, u decide and when u want to drive / Drive within your time range, anytime thereafter, rest time
2. Car at your disposal, no need handover / Must make sure vehicle returned on time, but after that none of your business, don't like hirer, can just return key and move on..
Disadvantages
1. Higher cost = means need more time on the road to see profit / lower cost, easier to manage, but drive within your time shift
2. If cannot drive, or go holiday and can't find suitable people to cover, need to throw rental / hirer can terminate partnership with u anytime
To be frank..in taxi driving, be it hirer or relief, life will be hard going forward.
The most important is be pychologically prepare, both OMO and relief is also a taxi drivers, both earning quite the same, only that OMO got better benefits, however, relief can change anytime, that is also another benefit for relief.
By and large, as Taxi drivers ourselves, best, if can, dun drive taxis lah, take the licence and keep it for future or weekend partime use, go find a job that got much better benefits and future. Our labour market is one of the tightest in the world, it all a matter of whether you wish to get out of your comfort zone, but actually not so comfort, so to speak.
Is time to change old blood....
Anybody want to learn from me? take over from me? Sound familiar hor...

You need to join our forum better. All your answers is there plus got experenced drivers to guides you, share with you, friendly seniors who give you tips and teach you stuff plus juniors who are like you and tell you how they also do. Got at least 80% of the things for you to learn there, other 20% can learn later.

No lah, it's relief who hold the better cards. Hirer terminate you, he gotta find another. You relief can find many hirers until the one you can get along with.
Both also can be done, but hirer you must be more disciplined, because once you hold the keys (from the company), it becomes your baby more or less.
But hirer if drive in the morning is better, healthier for sure. Night driving takes a toll on your body.
So it is much depend on individual discipline and his ability to hold fort. If so, be a hirer is of no problem,
But if individual himself is not so discipline and knowing his weakness of likely to hop around with less stress on having to attach to a contract, then maybe he can choose to be a relief.
So, the personality do play a critical roles, and also for some like my bro, smlj people also cannot get along, then better be OMO.
Lastly, as we are know that Hotels are booming here and there, if one can step into restuarants, food and beverage, hotel and motel lines, it can be more lucrative than TD. The business and labour market is shifting itself toward a service and financial orientated business and technology is also shifting toward higher tech such as biotech and pharmacy.
Sometime it is no that there is no job for you, it is because you are structurally unable to take up some job, or in another word, not qualify or trained, therefore, govt with WDA had put in millions to upgrade locals in train and place employment, however, individual need to be discipline and like all job including TD, work hard.

I agreed. And also stay relevant and keep up to market situation..
Try Relief first then decide whether you want to be a Hirer (OMO) or Hirer (w/relief).
I started as Relief then Hirer (OMO), Now Hirer (w Relief). My relief drive 5days per week so Sat and Sun I have full use of my taxi for extra curricular activities.
Depends on what you want. Relief is $100 investment everyday. Hirer investment is around $150 to $180 everyday. Example: relief can start at 6pm and close shop at 12mn. But hirer will have to drive till 2.30am or 3am. Both same income. Unless you like me *chee hong*. Sat and Sun sleep over at GF place so must find excuse not to go home. Told my relief Sat and Sun go off.
If you need stable income and also a family man then relief is the best choice. Less stress.
Please hor, don't think about the bullshit of $7K per month. How many lives do you have? You will have to drive 18 hours everyday to achieve that and very soon Mr. Bowah will have to pick you up. Cheers.
This topic had been discuss and will keep discussing as time goes
No right or wrong answer
it's only, can one behave like an adult.......
do anything you want, and face the consequences.

True, And also in a round table of discussion, there is no such thing as experienced drivers or chief or Asses, we are all at the same level, and that is why the table is round.
What good you can do is to note and absorb what you think is relevant and important to you (which might not be to others) observe and speak your thot out, ask if need further clarification. Then go back, think it over and decide for yourself the option you wish to undertake base on what you had noted, your personal environment, condition, strenght and weakness.

i think i'm wrong to think you are law saw
but instead, should be law saw + yah saw
btw, i never believe in claiming a higher position by experience, esp. in a trade like Taxi Driving and social media like forum.
Keep the relationship simple, all are equal, all are free to express
what chief..... what rsm......play rank in a cyber world, choi lei dou saw

why relief investment is $100, whereas hirer investment is so much higher?
but agree, OMO higher cost means more hours needed to see same amount of $$

Night relief and Day relief is totally different ball game hor...
Not many people suitable to drive night and vice-versa for day drivers also....
"OMO higher cost means more hours needed to see same amount of $$"
This sentence compare between OMO and night relief maybe valid, if compare to day relief, I doubt so....

i know of omo can cope with day and night, but in the pm, go back and rest few hours, around 4pm come out again
omo and night relief got better $$ to make during peak hours, day relief, peak hours so short only

No, I'm not talking about those split shift OMOes...
Anyway, day shift drivers only can hope between 5-11am soon soon kia chun....
If those 5am-5pm day shift drivers, between this time, cannot make, that's it for the day...
Season drivers will know, afternoon is mostly serving charity time....
So in other word, comparing between OMOes and day shift drivers, longer hour for OMO definitely will see more profit than day shift drivers....
OMO on the other hand, got benefit and in some companies like TC, some rebates per month which is also getting lesser by newer cabs. It is also good for OMO in a sense that you can carry on own time own target. And also avoid the hassle of cleaning, washing and time wastage in handling over.
Relief, if not full week, may not be able to enjoy the perks given to hirer, furthermore, the time factor of returning can take some time off, and also a stressful one if are late in returning due to a last minute airport trip cannot let go, then you see yourself zooming like no govt down the expressway..lols
