  Start cabs' CBD surcharge earlier

  THE Land Transport Authority (LTA) says the city area surcharge encourages cabs to enter the Central Business District ("Surcharge spurs cabs to enter CBD, says LTA"; last Wednesday).

  But this surcharge is applicable only from 5pm.

  I suggest that the LTA studies the demand for taxis in the financial district and Orchard Road from 2pm to 5pm. The wait for taxis during this period has led to much frustration.

  Changing the start time of the CBD surcharge from 5pm to 2pm would yield positive results.

  Either implement surcharge or off the ERP gantry lah. Afternoon pay ERP kam lan. Not peak hour leh.

  Should start CBD from noon!

  actually CBD outskirts at disadvantage as many cabs will not want to go out of CBD

  Taxis not major cause of jams

  THE Land Transport Authority says taxis are subject to Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) because they, like all other vehicles, occupy road space and contribute to congestion ("Surcharge spurs cabs to enter CBD, says LTA"; last Wednesday).

  Taxis make up only a small fraction of the total vehicle population. Furthermore, not all taxis ply the road and the same locations at the same time.

  The LTA also says the city area surcharge was implemented as an incentive for cabbies to pick up passengers in the Central Business District. This money does not go to the drivers if it is used to offset the ERP charges.

  Also, residents who live in blocks next to bus lanes have difficulty hailing a taxi during bus lane operation hours as cabbies are afraid of being booked if they stop.

  Can taxis be allowed to share the bus lane, as is the case in some countries?

  Hmm...if true, then LTA see him no up lor..raised so long ago and so many times still not implemented.

  wow... very true... both the chief/RSM tot can do wonder one? if they know so many ppl in LTA, they still need to drive taxi and still need to find  13 quality paxes??   maybe they do not know the transport minister yet.
