But spare a thought for those like me who were trained to sail onboard ships. It takes a HUGE lot of training.

My heart went out to him when I remembered how all of us, NSFs and regulars risked life and limb each time we took to the seas to protect SGreans.
And when we returned each time, whence the thanks?
Instead we usually see how people say things like "no need NS", "SG damn safe", "NS waste time".
Seriously? The only reason why they can say that is because they never realise what lies beyond their shores.
And why? Because there are those who stand in the way of harm....for them!
Some branches of SAF are so woefully undermanned that they are forced to take NSFs even when it makes little sense to invest so much time to train them up, and then lose them.

The SAF is a total defence force, not an offensive one, most countries like South korea and taiwan train their soldier both in defence and offence. Meaning protect and attack, and they also served 2 years.
The argument here is after my 2.5 stint with SAF, which i manage to get even my class 4 licence which helped me to land a job by driving those casket lorries in the 80s and 90s, class 3 and 2 too, this show that alot of spare time could had been wasted and luckily I take some advantages out of it, exchanging with friends for weekend duties to go take my lessons. There lies another 13 cycles of reservist.
If I train you 1 year, you go back to study, then I call back for a month of revservist, which is more pro in a sense, wouldn't it be better than asking you to go on for another 1.5years for nothing, and end up the economy keep saying lack of workforce and need foreigners??
And to tell the truth, I find reservist is better to be able to get thing done than NSF, because all of us are more mature, able to work as team and hold more responsible to what we do and most important, know what is productivity.

Aiya, in the SAF(Serve And Forget
), for NSF, it all depend on your vocation la...If you sway sway tio Armour, your 2-1/2 years will be very colourful type 1...
If you lagi sway tio Commando, train under me, limpek make sure you bo free time in your NSF cycles....
Than some si beh heng, becum CO PA(familiar hor), heng hor? Lj ok, more siong than Commando...Mentally....
Even you tio AirForce or Navy, all got its pros and con la...
Some vocation, knn eat lunch also no time, some vocation, everyday can hang around mess, play billiard, tcss....
In this so call biggest organization of Singapore, it will never be fair for everybody....
