If you have breast related problems then it’s obviously wise to head to a shrine over a doctor or so they believe in Japan! Karube Jinja is a small Shinto shrine located near the town of Soja in Japan’s Okayama prefecture. History says that in the late 17th century when visitors noticed that a certain Weeping Cherry tree at the shrine seemed to be “weeping” more than one would normally expect. This led women to believe that they could lactate more to feed their babies if they made a pilgrimage to this place to please the deities. Women would craft small votive amulets and plaques, often featuring a pair of breasts, along with an inscribed prayer for assistance in their particular need. The shrine started witnessing more and more distressed visitors. However, these days you can simply buy a breast plaque. They are placed in a hall in the shrine. The Weeping Cheery tree that was Karube Jinja’s ancient claim to fame died around 1940, but some part of its trunk has been carefully
preserved nonetheless.
