What makes you think that Musset is difficult to get in? we are all friendly pple what, hor, Eric? talk to both companies before you sign.

anyway, I have written for many years .. starting with lotsa competition, and then writing for TCS serial!.. The first lyrics I sold to the taiwan market was "Yi Wu Fan Gu" (no regrets) by Denise Ruan Dan Qing. Me and some frens were doing some demo, trying to get some attention, and Ruan's producer just happened to see the lyrics and picked it up and wrote a melody to it.. and then I signed to Musset, thatz when I see abit of sunlight.. and know great frens like Eric, David, Yiqi etc..
only abt one year or so, then managed to sell to Daniel Chan, Ronald Cheng, Valen Hsu, Freya, Panda, Makiyo, 4-in-love, Wen Zhang (!), Tanya, Kit, Mavis, Yiqi, He Yaoshan, and a few China singers (and of course Sandy Lam la)..in between, are lots of rewriting, amendments and rejections..
you see, a lot of taiwanese producers do not want to use Singapore lyricist's work, coz they have some preference for taiwanese lyrics (with slangs that we are not familar with) and they definitely do not want to make long distance call to you.. thatz where your publisher will be able to help you ... see?
anyway, my advice is: get a full-time job and write lyrics for leisure. It keeps you going, coz writing lyrics will not be able to feed your stomach. and writing lyrics after work becomes a fun thing..Unless of course if you are some A and R eg YaoQian, Xu ShiZhen, Li ZhuoXiong or Yi JiaYang, when you decide who shall write lyrics for your artiste, or you are as good as Lin Xi.
dun be too ambitious or impatient or hot-headed. Decide what you want in life, and make the right choice. if you decide to do music full-time, know wat you are in for. and be ready, it is a bed of roses with thorns, fragant and tempting, but not exactly nice to lie in.

eh! i think ah...in music sense, the only meaning in the term 'professional' is tat the person is doin it full time, so it doesn't really mean shit...
so even though i can say i'm a pro, but there are millions of amateurs who can kick my ass anytime...(pls ah...i don't mean literally)
so actually xiaohan really is not professional, she's semi pro but she can kick some of those professional's ass any time...

No..tat's not true...we usually need the new writers to cut their veins and sacrifice new blood to the all mighty song god and we are all extremely rude ppl, we have guns all around the office all hidden of course, and a little room where we stock up on the dead bodies of useless writers... -

Actually, I agree with Eric in the sense...yes...those top-shots up that usually would reject reject reject.
Abt Touch...i guess i need to be a bit more thick-skinned...maybe i should juz hang around a few more months...how abt calling musset up?
Dun worry...i dun intend to make lyrics as a career...it's done a fun...and hopefully it pays basis...even if i sell it off for one buck...besides...i am still in the midst of my studies...

tat day i did quite a long ass interview on UFM, it was about one hr...sorry man...forget to tell u...was too busy watching star wars, didn't even hear it myself on air...
anyway the story goes i was playing in bands ever since i started learning playing guitar and drums together when I was 17, i played in many bands(playing mostly rock, metal and all that) and many pubs till when i came out of army, benny(fren of mine) asked me to play chinese pubs...so i did...and it was quite fun lah...and one day in 1996 i was asked to play in radio and TV for taiwanese ppl, like coco, emil chau, ren xian qi, quite a hell lot of them lah...then one day ker yi min asked me, why don't u write songs? up till then i never ever wrote a damn song, usually in my english band, my singer wrote songs...but anyway i just said...ok lor...and just started writing when i was 21 and started taking basic piano lessons for a while...and then i took a break from my school(around 97) and just kept writing really horrible songs...hahah anyhow just write, and then thru anyhow writing after about a yr, i started getting offers to do arrangement...which i didn't know wat arrangement at that time...and after that i just blur blur moved along till today lah.. -
anyway to mr zilch, from the time i started, till this point of my so called career(to me, it's just playing...) i never really gave much thot to anything, i took watever came...any problem, settle it later, becoz i know in singapore this scene is really small, and chances are few and whatever things u come, u shld take it, whether money is too little or ppl are not really that nice but willing to give u a chance or watever...just take it...some body say lousy, some ppl say good...well all these people are still around for a reason...if they were all that shitty, they will not be there to offer u anything...nothing is perfect...so it's better to climb out of the toilet bowl and stay in a toilet then stay inside the toilet bowl and be covered in shit forever...climb out whenever u can, it might give u a chance to open the toilet door to another beautiful master bedroom...

anyway, it was really quite funny and irreverent... esp the parts where eric talked about how hopeless he was at piano.... gives the rest of us hope ya? me also took piano lessons from age 4 all the way up till sec 2 when i really couldn't bear to torture the teacher anymore... really. i think that was the happiest day of both our lives. haha. my mother still gives me grief for wasting her money and says i play so bad she didn't even dare to open the door when i practised piano last time. quite pathetic lah, i quit just before i was to take the grade 5 exam so sounds very nice but in reality i only have a grade 3 cert now cos i skip grades last time. sighz..
then in secondary school i was in the guitar ensemble, haiz, another farce.. for 4 years we didn't even learn how to play chords (only the really zai ones go learn from the seniors lah, the rest of us just sit there and shake legs), only pluck all the songs... and because i was in 2nd guitar, was playing all the harmonising parts which don't exactly make up a coherent song.... haha, so sad rite?
nvm lah, i promised myself that after i finish my a'levels next year, i will, no, must go relearn piano, guitar and take up drums (which might be a little tricky since my piano teacher once assured me that i had no sense of rhythm)

anyway, just wanna say that there are a lot of great local singers and groups... just look at those singing at min ge can ting and u can find tons of talented singers... cai chun jia, cai li lian are some examples... btw, i think u all miss out xin wei... i like her zhu da ge, ru guo you yi tian... nice nice... hehehe
there's also the a cappella scene in singapore... though small, but distinctive... even held an aka acappella concert recently... i was hooked on a cappella ever since i attended a concert at YMS... some of the groups are real fantastic...
hehehe.. support the local group... they will definitely make it with all ur help.
